Attention Parents of 8th Grade Students:

Please click here for the High School "Ready" page

Only 8th grade students currently enrolled in Advanced Algebra are eligible to apply for the High School "Ready" program.

High School Planning is underway! October has been a busy month! I began by visiting 8th grade History classes and working with students to complete a High School Planning Survey. Students worked individually to complete a survey that will help me better support them as we work together to identify and select the high school option that best meets their needs. We then heard presentations from the three public high school options available to all Watertown students: Watertown High School, Kaynor Technical High School and Nonnewaug (Ellis Clark School of Agri-Science). During these presentations, students learned about the different program offerings at each school and were then able to follow up with me if they wanted to receive an application to Kaynor Tech and or Nonnewaug. Over the course of the month, I met with all interested applicants in a series of small groups to review the application requirements, answer questions and address deadlines for submission. From there, I followed up with the entire 8th grade by visiting their Language Arts classes over the course of a two day period. During this time we used a working outline to clarify high school options and the process required for applying to either public or private high schools. All students were able to keep their outlines since it contains helpful information in regard to overall high school planning.

Watertown High School will be holding their Open House this upcoming Wednesday evening at 6pm. I encourage all families to attend this information evening! Information regarding next years “Ready” course, will be shared at this time. As follow up, I plan to visit 8th grade Advanced Algebra courses in November (Ready is only available to current students taking Advanced Algebra) to review information pertaining to the “Ready” course as well as the application procedure and timeline.

Kaynor Tech and Nonnewaug applications continue to be available in the School Counseling office. Any student interested in applying to either school must see Mrs. Ayer for an application (please refer to application deadlines posted on the left).

Any student/family interested in applying to private high schools must contact the specific school(s) directly to obtain information pertaining to the application process, testing, and or additional requirements. (Please refer to the December 15th deadline to submit to Mrs. Ayer, any paperwork pertaining to private school applications that require School Counselor/School Official/Principal completion).

Please visit this page often, as I will communicate important information here for your planning purposes.

I am excited to support this important time in your child’s school career. Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or information as we take this journey together!

Sincerely,

Julie Ayer
